Safety at Sea - The Development of a New Training Module of Safety Management for the Crew in Cruise-ship

Friday, 01/01/1999

Development of a Safety Management Training Module.

Start date: 1999

End date: 2001

Research Program: Leonardo Da Vinci

The project aimed towards the acquisition of new, flexible skills and qualifications necessary for health and safety on board cruise-ships. Not only did it train crew members on how to protect themselves and the passengers from hazards on board, but also, most importantly, it educated them on why they should care, what are the necessary precautions, and tought them the specific steps they should follow in different kinds of dangerous situations. The awareness of the crew on safety measures during risky situations while travelling at sea, and the enhancement of their human/social conscience were issues of vital importance, contributing to the well-being all travelers, the crew as well as the passengers. ALBA was responsible for the review of the national and E.U. regulations referring to the safety of the crew and the passengers on board cruise ships and the dissemination process of the project.
