The ALBA MBA Program is a full-time, over-intensive 12-month program aiming at offering participants a unique learning experience. Its emphasis is not only on developing participants specialized knowledge of management but, through challenging lectures, hands-on projects, imaginative workshops, and insightful talks by guest speakers from industry, it aims at cultivating those attitudes, frames of minds and skills that are appropriate in dealing with today's business challenges.

The Program provides participants with the skills that are necessary to act effectively in a global business context. As well as offering a rich menu of courses covering all areas of business management, from the most conventional to the state-of-the-art business knowledge, the Program includes several workshops throughout the year. These are compulsory and primarily aim at strengthening participants' so-called "soft skills" - skills which, as both business experience and research show, are hard to acquire and absolutely crucial for effective management. Workshops include sessions in teamwork, writing and presentation skills, communication, skills, creativity & problem solving, and negotiations, skills and foundation of management consulting.

The Program is divided into six periods, each lasting for 8 weeks. At the end of each period there is a week for final examinations.

The Program consists of:

  • Preparatory Courses
  • Core Courses
  • Elective Courses
  • Workshops
  • Field/Consulting Project

The Preparatory Period lasts two weeks and starts at the beginning of September, covering Business Mathematics, Introduction to Financial Accounting, and Computer Skills. It is a brief but intensive review of the basic concepts and skills for those participants lacking a strong background in these areas, or for those who wish to refresh their knowledge. An additional benefit of the Preparatory Period is that it may give you a head start in getting to know your classmates and the School. Participants with a strong background in these subjects are not required to take the respective courses. Additionally, during this period the first workshop on Team Building takes place one weekend. Given that you will be spending the rest of the academic year working intensively in groups, this particular workshop attempts to expose you to the philosophy and challenges of teamwork, through combination of outdoor activities lectures and fun. At the end of the workshop you will be assigned to a group which will be your formal group for the rest of the year.

Periods 1, 2 and 3 are devoted to core courses plus workshops, while Periods 4 and 5 include a mix of core and elective courses plus workshops. An impressive variety of elective courses offer participants the opportunity to further develop and specialize into subjects of particular interest to them. We try to combine the benefits of a well rounded, general MBA Program with the value of specialization. Naturally, it is left to participants to make their own choices. During Period 5 participants start working on the Field/Consulting Project and they are expected to hand it in and present it to both the Faculty and the sponsoring company by the end of the summer. We attribute particular importance to this project since it gives participants a unique chance to tackle a real-life business issue and put their hitherto accumulated knowledge in action, in an integrated manner.
