Monday, 30/07/2018 Wildfires Notice

Dear ACG Colleagues,

It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of the now confirmed deaths in the recent wildfires of: Aikaterini (Katia) Avramidou (Executive Coordinator, Deree School of Business); Markos Katsoulakis (Katia’s husband); Paris-Polydoros Katsoulakis (the son of Katia and Markos and a Deree student), and Garyfalia (Litsa) Moraiti (Katia’s mother).

Words are insufficient to express the sorrow we feel at such tragic loss. We will join Katia’s extended family and friends in doing all we can to support her son, Dimitris, in the coming days and beyond.

Peace be to Katia’s memory, the memory of her husband, son and mother and all those who perished and now rest in the arms of God.

David G. Horner
President
The American College of Greece

Friday, 27/07/2018 Wildfires Impact to ACG community

Message from Dr. David G. Horner, President of ACG

"The destruction and devastation following in the wake of the recent Attica wildfires has touched the ACG community deeply.

Several ACG faculty, staff, and student families suffered temporary or permanent loss of homes and other property. Even more tragically, among the known victims are a Pierce alumna, Amy Androulidaki, and a beloved priest, Father Spyridon, who performed the beginning of school blessing at Pierce and Pierce Commencement for over 40 years.

Katia Avramidou (Executive Coordinator, Deree School of Business), her husband, mother, and son,Paris Katsoulakis– a Deree student, are among the missing. We remain steadfast in our hope for the best possible outcome.

ACG students are organizing a blood drive and, as announced earlier, the College is offering its facilities and other services to assist in the recovery. For updates related to these services and other news, please click the link

For many among and around us, however, recovery is not possible. We mourn the loss of our loved ones and pray for comfort and healing in the days ahead.

Tuesday, 24/07/2018 ACG to provide relief to victims of Attiki wildfires

Following the tragic fire incidents in Attiki, as an initial step towards providing relief to fellow citizens, the American College of Greece has opened up its residencies to faculty and staff in need for a temporary home.

As a next step, ACG aims at offering temporary accommodation to a wider group of fellow citizens from the affected areas. To that end, a coordinated effort is being made through the appropriate authorities of the Municipality of Rafina and Pikermi.

In addition, the ACG counseling center is open and can provide support services on campus to ACG community members (students, staff and ACG alumni) during normal operating hours (10:00-18:00). Outside normal hours, we will offer support services on call.

Anyone wishing to receive the Centre’s services are welcome to walk in on the above mentioned operating hours or contact the Counseling Center via email or phone, ext. 1080, and 6949 201379 (outside operating hours) to request further information or book an appointment.

Deree Psychology faculty members, who are licensed psychologists are directly in touch with the municipality of Nea Makri, which asked for counseling help.

Moreover, the Deree Student Association is leading an all-College blood drive which will take place at NIMTS Hospital until Friday, August 3 (Monis Petraki, 10-12, from 8:30-14:30, except the weekend. For more information, call the President of the Deree Student Association at 6946122104).

For any relevant information please contact 210 6009800, ext. 1124, 1116 or 1421 – Office of Human Resources & Campus Services.
